School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships give students the opportunity to begin a nationally recognised qualification while still completing their WACE at Comet Bay College.
These programs allow students to combine part-time paid employment with formal training, gaining real-world experience, workplace skills, and a head start on their future career.
Whether you're interested in a trade or another industry, a School Based Apprenticeship (SBA) or School Based Traineeship (SBT) can be a valuable step towards your goals — setting you up for continued training or employment after graduation.
School Based Traineeships (SBT):
It is possible to complete a traineeship while you are still at school. In a School Based Traineeship, you complete your Traineeship part time and complete your WACE as well. A school based trainee must complete the same number of hours of work and training that a full time trainee is expected to complete, they just do it over a longer period of time (normally 1 day per week over 2 years).
You will normally complete a minimum of 100 days of paid employment over the term of your traineeship.
As a school based, part time trainee, you get:
- a job
- accredited training
- ongoing advice and support
- a training wage
- a WACE
- a nationally recognised qualification
School Based Apprenticeships (SBA):
It is possible to complete part of an Apprenticeship while you are still at school. In a School Based Apprenticeship, you complete part of your Apprenticeship part time and complete your WACE as well. A school based apprentice will normally complete the first year of their apprenticeship while they are at school and then complete the rest of the apprenticeship full time once they have completed school.
You will complete between 100 and 180 days of paid employment (depending on which trade you are in) over the term of your School Based Apprenticeship.
As a school based, part time apprentice, you get:
- a job
- accredited training
- ongoing advice and support
- a training wage
- a WACE
- a nationally recognised qualification
